Things to know when selecting CCTV Cable

Siamese cable (RG59/U + 18/2 power cable)
is the most commonly used cable for connecting CCTV systems because of it's reliability and convenience.  All of our Siamese, RG6 and CAT5e are UL rated and 95% Bare Copper.  We offer cable as CM rated.  For CMR (Riser) or CMP (Plenium) please contact Sales at 1.562.923.2323.

What is a Siamese Cable?
Siamese Cable, also known as ZIP, is cable which connects two different types of cable into one common strand by placing them side to side. One side contains RG59/U used for video signal and the other side is 18/2 used to provide power.  Each cable type is bound separately then separated by a dimpled track in the cable. This track can easily be pulled apart or "zipped" for installation.  The benefit is that both video and power cable are now in one easy to pull strand, is more cost effective, makes for faster cable runs and provides for a clean run by being able to separate the RG59/U and 18/2 at the place needed.

CM Rated Cable (R-732, R-752, R-757) - These are cables used for general building wiring. CM cables are used in areas other than plenums and risers and are resistant to the spread of fire and pass the UL 1581 Vertical Tray Flame Test.

CMR Rated Cable (
R-731, R-751, R-756) - CRM is 'Riser Rated'.  Riser type cables are engineered to prevent the spread of fire from floor to floor and are suitable for vertical shaft applications.

CMP Rated (R-733, R-753)
- CMP is 'Plenum Rated'.  Plenum cables are suitable for installation in ducts and plenums without the use of conduit. These cables are designed for fire resistance and low-smoke and toxin producing characteristics.

Why 95% Copper Braid?

The quality of your cable is the key to the overall success of your CCTV System.  For CCTV installation, you should always use cable that is marked 95% Copper Braid.  Cable made with less than 95% Copper such as Aluminum Shield is made with lesser grade material and will result in poor video quality and increased video signal interference.

Don't fall victim to buying lesser grade cable to save a few dollars per box.
The time, energy and money spent re-running poor quality cable is well worth the initial investment.
