Dome security cameras are the most universally used security cameras on the market today. In fact, their discreet design makes this the ideal choice for both commercial and residential security applications. These type of cameras are designed for use in various environments: indoor or outdoor use, fixed or varifocal lens, vandal or non-vandal, with IR's or without, and finally optional Sens-Up (color by day and night) or WDR (Wide Dynamic Range) ability. When to use cameras with IR's Cameras with built in Infrared Illuminators (IR's) can be used when nighttime viewing is necessary. This technology
uses special IR LED's to inconspicuously illuminate the viewing area when needed. This allows you to capture
video during the day and night for a 24 hour surveillance solution. See in vivid color during the day and high quality monochrome (black and white) during darkness.
When to use Sens-Up cameras When low light or nighttime viewing is necessary and you prefer color images during both day and night, Sens-Up cameras may be used. The built-in Sens-Up feature is manually adjusted to slow the shutter when capturing images during low light or no light environments. Slowing the shutter speed allows more light into the lens (iris) and allows more light into the imager to maintain color pictures at night.
When to use WDR cameras These specialty cameras are used in applications where environmental lighting is challenging for a standard security camera. These type of cameras are typically used where extreme and varied lighting demands are present. Used mainly when a camera is directed toward a large window or entrance door which lets in a large amount of light or sunlight. For cameras not using WDR technology, images will appear washed out due to the high brightness and capturing usable images is difficult. Mostly used in commercial and retail applications, as well as offices, schools and hospitals where floor to ceiling windows are present.
