IR / Night Vision Security Cameras
Don't let the dark of night prevent you from seeing an intruder sneaking in and around your property
Use cameras with built in Infrared Illuminators (IR's). This technology uses special IR LED's to inconspicuously illuminate the viewing area when in low light or no light situations. This allows you to capture video during the day and night for a 24 hour surveillance solution. See in vivid color during the day and high quality monochrome (black and white) during total darkness.
In order to get the most of your night viewing, please consider the questions noted below. This advanced planning can help determine which IR Range and/or Style that may be applicable to your security requirements.
How far to do you really need to see at night? - Do you need an IR camera for indoor or outdoor use?
- Where is the camera being placed (ceiling, wall, outside, etc.)
- Do you want to see a close up view within 8' or a longer range of 80'+ from where the camera is placed? For instance, inside an office or warehouse, a residential driveway from garage to street, the front door, patio area, etc?
- Do you want a general view only - an overall view of a lunch room, front yard, side yard, parking area, etc?
- Do you want to have a zoom in view of a back gate, door, etc? Is this area the main focal point? If so, what is the distance from where the camera is to be placed?
- Do you want to see detailed areas inside a warehouse, parking structure, retail store, outdoor areas, etc.?
- Do you want a Bullet, Dome or Turret Style camera?
- Vandal or non-vandal?
- For outdoor areas, we recommend using cameras with an 'IP rating' of IP66+ (see below for more details)
The
low light emitting LED's are barely visible to the naked eye. All of our IR cameras are rated from IP66 - IP68 for
outdoor use (see chart below). Don't be misled by those who
claim IP55 - IP65 rated cameras are completely weatherproof.
All About IP Ratings
The Ingress Protection (IP) ratings are developed for the European Committee for Electro Technical Standardization specifying the environmental protection an enclosed device provides. The IP rating normally has two numbers:
- Protection from solid objects or materials
- Protection from liquids (water)
While we
cover a wide range of IR cameras, our most common IP ratings are 66, 67
and 68. For quick reference, these are defined below with additional
clarification. We always recommend that any IP66 camera be
placed under an eave for additional protection from the elements.
- IP65 - IP rated as "dust tight" and protected against water projected from a standard garden nozzle.
- IP66 - IP rated as "dust tight" and protected against
direct contact with jets of water.
- IP67 - IP rated as "dust tight" and protected against incidental immersion within 30 inches.
- IP68 - IP rated as "dust tight" and protected against
complete, continuous submersion in water to the distance indicated in camera specs.
