Megapixel IP/Network Security Cameras
Just as IP cameras generally provide greater resolution over analog cameras, Megapixel IP cameras provide for much greater resolution possible. Their vivid clarity increases as the pixel count increases (1.3MP vs 8MP, etc.) with Megapixel cameras providing increased resolution that suits your need in displaying close up images.
One Megapixel camera can cover larger areas over a standard IP camera. If we compare both, a MP camera can cover up to 4x more area than a standard IP or analog camera. And one 3.0MP camera covers the area with no loss of image resolution when called upon. Zoom into an IP or analog camera and you typically get a distorted image. Zoom in with an MP camera and you can actually 'see' what you're looking at - license plates, facial expressions, etc.
Because of this, one Megapixel camera can cover the same area as multiple analog & IP cameras and with far greater levels of picture quality. In fact, run a standard IP camera and MP camera side by side and you'll actually be able to identify people, faces and clothing extremely well vs the image on a standard IP camera.
How to decide which megapixel to use? Decide how much video quality you want to capture. The higher the megapixel, the higher the image quality. The higher the megapixel camera, the great ability you will have to zoom into an object. If megapixel cameras are being used to monitor a parking area, banks, etc. you may want to consider a MP that has greater image ability. Again, this depends on how great of an image you truly want to capture.
